Keeping Your Dog Safe and Cool This Summer
A COOL DOG IS A HAPPY DOG!
Summer is just around the corner and there are some very important things you need to know to keep your dog cool and comfortable during those hot summer months. Please keep your pets in mind during the hot months ahead, and keep them cool this summer.
Never leave your dog in the car! Even with the windows cracked, if the weather is above 70 degrees, it is too warm for your dog.
Never leave your dog locked in the garage while you are away. There is very little ventilation and when it is hot outside, the temperature in the garage is at least 10 to 20 degrees warmer.
Be careful of the hot pavement. Dog’s paws are very sensitive and can very easily burn their pads. During these hot days, try to schedule to walk your dog early in the morning or in the evenings when the pavement is cool. If you need to take your dog out when it is hot outside, perhaps you can fit your buddy with some Dog Boots to protect his paws. With smaller dogs, you can carry them, but with larger dogs, the boots work great!
Be sure your dog has plenty of fresh water at all times and provided a cool place to lie down. If you have an outside dog, be sure there is plenty of shade or some sort of shelter to protect him and keep him cool. A good idea might be to provide him with a Cool Bandana or a Cool Bed III for those hot days outside. For a special treat, give him a Fill-N-Freeze Refillable Dog Bone . This will keep him cool for hours.
Remember, if you are warm, your dog is warmer. He has that fur coat and dogs don’t sweat, so they keep heat in which makes their body temperature much higher than us humans. Ideally, if possible, keep them inside with you in the cool house.
While we're not advocating that your prized pooch remain indoors with the air conditioning at full blast with a frozen daiquiri in his mitts or lounging on his favorite raft in the pool, common sense needs to prevail to keep your pet safe and cool for the summer season.
HAPPY TAILS TO YOU!
